We offer many cars in different styles and sizes, so you can hire the perfect model for your journey. These cars belong to various groups, such as Group A or Group J.
Ordering cars into groups helps us provide a premium service, because there is never any confusion over the car you are hiring and whether you're eligible to drive it. Sometimes you're only eligible to hire cars from certain groups. For example, in the UK if you hire a car under the age of 25 you can choose from Group A (such as a Hyundai i10), Group B (such as a Ford Fiesta), Group C (such as a Seat Leon), Group E (such as Vauxhall Astra) or Group I (such as VW Golf Auto).
The car groups also help you understand useful information, such as the amount you pay (the excess) if you're involved in an accident, which can vary from group to group.

We offer a range of cars across each car group but we can’t guarantee the make, model or colour. ‘Or similar’ simply confirms that we will provide the car shown as example or a car of similar characteristics. With Avis you can be sure we only work with the best car manufacturers and ensure our vehicles are in great condition, so you will always have the best ride whether you’re driving a Mercedes, a Volkswagen or another car brand.

Unfortunately we can't guarantee the colour, model or make of your hire car.

However, if you hire one of our Prestige Vehicles available in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France and Switzerland, you can choose the exact make and model (not colour) at an extra cost. We think it's a small price to pay for the very car you desire.

Book a Select Series vehicle (not currently available in the UK) and the car you pick is the car you get. On the rare occasion we're unable to provide the exact model, we'll refund its cost. We understand you'll still need the extras you chose for your journey, so these won't be refunded. In addition to a refund for your hire vehicle, you will also receive another hire car. We will try our best to provide you with an equally premium model, dependent upon availability. Remember to book your vehicle at least 72 hours ahead to ensure we have time to prepare your desired model. Unfortunately we can't guarantee you will get to drive the exact model you desire any sooner than this. Any refund is therefore subject to you booking at least 72 hours before your journey.

We always aim to provide a vehicle from the group reserved. On the rare occasion we are unable to offer you a car from your chosen group, we will provide an equivalent or premium alternative. This won't cost you a penny extra because we want everything to be just right for your journey.

We always aim to provide the perfect model for your journey.
If you are unsatisfied with your choice, we will of course try to change it depending on what is available. If you collected it, simply return it to the hire station. Or if your vehicle was delivered, please call the number on the front of your rental agreement. If we do not have any alternative vehicles available in the category you have chosen, you can also request a paid upgrade to a different category.

There are no limitations as such. You will be assigned a vehicle from the group reserved. If, for any reason, you are unsatisfied with the vehicle provided, you can request that it be exchanged. Depending on availability, we will do our best to accommodate you.
